Warning: Email misusing the name and address of “Alliance Solicitors”

The SRA understands that an email falsely claiming to be from Alliance Solicitors has been sent to members of the public, stating "Please find attached for your urgent attention”.

What is the scam?

The SRA understands that members of the public have been sent an email falsely claiming to be from "Alliance Solicitors". The email seen by the SRA is headed “Urgent Legal Attention” and has been sent from “Anne.Graham@swc.ac.uk”. There is a concern that this attachment may contain harmful malware if opened.

Any business or transactions through the above email address are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

Alliance Solicitors is a genuine firm of solicitors that is authorised and regulated by the SRA. The genuine firm’s head office is located at 80 Willesden Lane, London, NW6 7TA. The genuine firm’s telephone number is 0207 328 4111 and its fax number is 0207 624 5566.

The genuine firm has confirmed that it has no connection to the email referred to in the alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
