Warning: Emails falsely claiming to be from Lawcomm Solicitors

Emails have been sent to law firms, falsely claiming to be from Lawcomm Solicitors in relation to a memorandum of sale.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that several law firms have received emails, falsely claiming to be from Lawcomm Solicitors. The content relates to a memorandum of sale and encloses contract documentation.

The emails appear to have been sent from the “completion team” and have been sent from the email addresses “”, “” and “”. The emails also provide the telephone number 01489 834 135 and the fax number 01439 864 101.

Any business or transactions through the email addresses “”, “” and “” are not undertaken by a solicitor’s practice or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

Lawcommercial Trading Limited is a genuine firm which is authorised and regulated by the SRA. Lawcommercial Trading Limited uses a trading name of Lawcomm Solicitors.

The genuine Lawcommercial Trading Limited has confirmed that it has no connection to the emails referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
