Warning: Emails misusing the name of Campions Solicitors and Estate Agents

Emails have been sent, falsely claiming to be from Campions Solicitors and Estate Agents.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent to members of the public, falsely claiming to be from "Evelina Petrone of Campions Solicitors and Estate Agents". The email refers to a property purchase and asks the recipient to advise whether payment has been made and to provide a proof of payment. Whilst the subject header refers to documents attached to the email, none were in fact attached to the email.

The email seen by the SRA appears to have been sent by "Evelina Petrone" using an email address of "". The email also provides the telephone number of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Any business or transactions through the email address “” are not undertaken by a solicitor’s practice or an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA. 

Is there a genuine firm or person?

Campions Solicitors and Estate Agents Ltd (trading as Campions Solicitors) is a genuine firm which is authorised and regulated by the SRA.  The genuine telephone number for the genuine firm of Campions Solicitors and Estate Agents is 0115 924 7028.

The genuine firm have confirmed that they do not employ anybody by the name of Evelina Petrone and that they have no connection to the email referred to above. 

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
