Warning: Cloned emails in the name of Julie Davies of Evans and Greaves Solicitors.

The SRA has been informed that cloned emails which misuse the details of the Evans and Greaves Solicitors have been sent to over 2000 members of the public.

What is the scam?

The SRA has received information that over 2000 individuals have received cloned emails sent in the name of Julie Davies.

A copy email as seen by the SRA appears to be sent from the email address of The email has a subject title of “Document from Julie Davies and contains a document link. It is reported that when clicking on the link, a request is received for an individual to provide their Sky ID number and password.

The email contains the address and contact details of a genuine firm, see below.

The genuine firm has confirmed that the emails use the email of a genuine employee of the firm, Julie Davies. The genuine firm also states that it only sends email attachments in PDF format.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

Evans and Greaves Solicitors is a genuine firm which is authorised and regulated by the SRA.

The genuine firm has a genuine address of 5 Piccadilly Square, Caerphilly. CF83 1PB. The genuine firm’s telephone number is 02920 866001 and its fax number is 02920 863182.

Both the genuine firm and the genuine Julie Davies confirm that they have no connection to the emails referred to above. It is believed that Julie Davies’s email address was cloned to send out the fake emails.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
