Decision details
The Authorised Officer decided to grant Mr Christopher Raven a practising certificate for the practice year 2010/2011 subject to the following conditions:
(i) he is not a sole practitioner, sole director or partner of recognised body.
(ii) he undertakes a course accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority on the New SRA Handbook within 6 months of the date of notification of this decision and provides confirmation of the completion of the course (in the form of a certificate or letter of attendance from the course provider) at such course when he next applies for a practising certificate.
(iii) Mr Raven shall immediately inform any actual or prospective employer of these conditions and the reasons for their imposition.
Reasons/basis
The Authorised Officer considers that it is necessary, appropriate and proportionate in the interests of the public to restrict Mr Raven from practising as a sole principal or solicitor in partnership. Further, due to his absence from practice Mr Raven should undertake a course on the new SRA Handbook.
In making the above recommendations the Authorised Officer had regard to the Regulation 6.1 (a) and (d) of the SRA Practising Regulations 2009.
