Decision details
The Adjudoicator DECIDED, further to the conditions already imposed on his current practising certificate, to impose an immediate condition on Mr Simon James Lawrence’s current (2009/2010) practising certificate, pursuant to Section 13A of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended) and Regulation 6 of the SRA Practising Regulations 2009, namely that he is not to act as an advocate in any criminal proceedings or give advice in criminal law matters (including acting as a duty solicitor under the Duty Solicitor Scheme or attending Police Stations as a duty solicitor representative).
Reasons/basis
Mr Lawrence is subject to Regulation 3.1(o) of the SRA Practising Regulations 2009.
These conditions are imposed pursuant to the provisions of Regulation 6.1(a) as the Solicitors Regulation Authority considers that in these circumstances, notwithstanding the fact that the question of Mr Lawrence’s innocence or guilt has yet to be established, such a condition is necessary in order to protect the interests of the public.

Reasons/basis
Whilst the evidence in support of the serious allegations made against Mr Lawrence have yet to be tested before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and no conclusions can be drawn at this time about the likley outcome, the Authorised Officer is satisfied that the issues raised by the Forensic Investigation Report dated 17 April 2007 are so serious that it is in the intersts of the public and in accordance with Regulation 6.1(e) of the SRA Practising Regulations 2009 that the above conditions are imposed upon Mr Lawrence's practising certificate.
