To grant Mr Amjad Salfiti a practising certificate for the practice year 2010/2011 subject to the following conditions: he may act as a solicitor only:
1.1 in employment or partnership, or
1.2 as a manager or owner of a recognised body, the arrangements for which have first been approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
1.3. Mr Salfiti may act as a locum (but not as a locum manager) without the prior approval of the SRA for a period of not more than one month in any two month period provided that he is supervised by a solicitor manager in the practice.
1.4. Mr Salfiti shall immediately inform any actual or prospective employer, partner, co-manager or co-owner of these conditions and the reasons for their imposition.
1.5. In this condition “manager” is as defined in section 207 of the Legal Services Act 2007 and “owner” is as defined in rule 24 of the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct.
Reasons/basis
The SRA considered the conditions imposed pursuant to Regulation 6.1(c) & (e) of the SRA Practising Regulations 2009, namely that by imposing these conditions requiring Mr Salfiti to obtain the SRA's written approval before taking certain steps, will, in the public interest, limit, halt or prevent risk to clients, third parties or the public and also facilitate closer monitoring by the SRA of compliance by Mr Salfiti with rules and regulations.
