To grant Mr Benedict Emeka Uzor a practising certificate for the practice year 2008/2009 subject to the conditions that (1) he may act as a solicitor only in employment which has first been approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority; (2) he is not a sole practitioner or a manager or owner of a recognised body; (3) Mr Uzor shall immediately inform any actual or prospective employer of these conditions and the reasons for their imposition; and (4) Mr Uzor undertakes courses on the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct 2007 and the Legal Services Act 2007 accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority within 6 months of the date of notification of this decision and shall provide confirmation of his attendance (in the form of a certificate or letter of attendance) at such courses within one month of those attendance.
Reasons/basis
In light of Mr Uzor’s adverse regulatory history with the SRA and the fact that he has not practised as a solicitor for a period of over three years, the SRA was satisfied that it is in the interests of the public that Mr Uzor’s practice as a solicitor should be restricted to those areas in which he has adequate experience. The SRA was further satisfied that it is in the interests of the public that Mr Uzor be required to attend the above courses to enable him to receive up to date training to ensure that he is familiar with the recent changes in the rules as a result of his absence from practice as a solicitor.

The Authorised Officer decided to grant Mr Benedict Emeka Uzor a practising certificate for the practice year 2009/2010 subject to the conditions that:
1.He may act as a solicitor in employment without the approval of the Solicitors Regulation Authority;
2.He is not a sole practitioner or sole director of a recognised body;
3.He may act in partnership or as a manager or owner of a recognised body only where the arrangements have first been approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority;
4.Mr Uzor shall immediately inform any actual or prospective partner, co-manager or co-owner of these conditions and the reasons for their imposition;
5.In this condition “manager” is as defined in Section 207 of the Legal Services Act 2007 and “owner” is as defined in Rule 24 of the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct 2007.
