An Authorised Officer granted Mr. Samrhan Iqbal a practising certificate for the practice year 2009/2010, subject to the following conditions. 1. That should he hold client monies that he will be required to deliver half yearly accountant’s reports, such reports and any cease to hold report required, to be delivered within two months of the end of the period to which they relate; and 2. that he undertakes a course accredited by the SRA on the Solicitors Accounts Rules 1998 within 6 months from 10 February 2010 and provides confirmation of completion of the course (in the form of a certificate or letter of attendance from the course provider) at such course when he next applies for a practising certificate; and 3. that he undertakes a course accredited by the SRA on the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct 2007, within six months from 10 February 2010 and provides confirmation of his completion (in the form of a certificate or letter of attendance from the course provider) of such course when he next applies for a practising certificate.
Reasons/basis
The Authorised Officer was satisfied that the above conditions are appropriate and proportionate whilst at the same time facilitates closer monitoring of Mr. Iqbal’s practice by the SRA so as to ensure that the interests of the public are protected. The Authorised Officer considered that Mr. Iqbal and indeed any prospective clients will benefit from his attendance upon the suggested courses on the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct 2007 (2009) and the Solicitors Accounts Rules 1998. It is further considered to be in the interests of the public that he receives updated training which will assist him in providing clients with a better level of service.
The Authorised Officer was satisfied, in line with paragraph 4A of the SRA’s publication policy, that it is in the public interest to publish this decision.

Reasons/basis
The Authorised Officer considered Mr Iqbal's regulatory history and noted that despite Mr Iqbal's assertion that he is currently not practising and that he does not intend to hold client monies, the Authorised Officer considers that it is appropriate, proportionate and necessary to impose the condition that should Mr. Iqbal hold client monies in the future that he be required to deliver half yearly accountant’s reports, so as to ensure closer monitoring of his compliance of the Solicitors Accounts Rules 1998.
