Decision details
Pursuant to Section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended) it is ordered that;
(a) with immediate effect: (i) no solicitor shall employ or remunerate, in connection with his practice as a solicitor; (ii) no employee of a solicitor shall employ or remunerate, in connection with the solicitor's practice; (iii) no recognised body shall employ or remunerate, and (iv) no manager or employee of a recognised body shall employ or remunerate in connection with the business of that body, Oonagh Frances Grant of Beckenham, Kent, except in accordance with a Society permission.
(b) as with the date specified above no recognised body or manager or employee of such a body shall, except in accordance with a Society permission, permit Oonagh Frances Grant of Beckenham, Kent to be a manager of the body.
(c) as from the date specified above no recognised body or manager or employee of such a body shall, except in accordance with a Society permission, permit Oonagh Frances Grant of Beckenham. Kent to have an interest in the body.
Reasons/basis
On 6 September 2011, Ms Grant was convicted of 10 counts of theft from her employer (a firm of solicitors). The conviction followed her confession to the offences.
The Adjudicator was satisfied that Ms Grant is a person to whom the provisions of S43(1)(a) of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended) apply and that it is appropriate in the interests of the public and the profession to make the Order.
