Director of SRA's Corporate Regulation Project appointed

13 October 2009

Samantha Barrass

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has appointed the new director for its Corporate Regulation Project, who will take forward its work on firm-based regulation, the regulation of the corporate sector and the introduction of alternative business structures. Samantha Barrass will be joining us on 23 November to take forward the work already started in these areas.

Samantha has 14 years of regulatory experience, most recently as a director of the London Investment Banking Association, where she has been in the forefront of developing policy and approaches to evidence-based regulation. She was formerly at the Financial Services Authority, where she led the delivery of outcome focused and principles-based regulation and early development of the FSA's use of industry-led guidance.

SRA Chief Executive Antony Townsend said: "Samantha's extensive experience will enable us to benefit from the experience of other key regulators of organisations that service large corporate clients. Her background will be of immense value as we prepare for the advent of alternative business structures in 2011. This appointment demonstrates the SRA's commitment to making speedy progress in these crucially important areas."
