SRA charts way forward for legal education
15 February 2007
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has published a document outlining its current thinking on the future of the solicitors' profession.
The strategic framework for the education, training and professional development of solicitors covers both pre-qualification and post-qualification issues.
The SRA sees education and training as a key element of the quality assurance agenda flagged in its core statement of purpose: "To set and secure in the public interest standards of behaviour and professional performance necessary to ensure that clients receive a good service and the rule of law is upheld".
The SRA is keenly interested in the views of its stakeholders on these issues. It is launching two new consultations in February – one on work based learning and the other on the Legal Practice Course. For details, please check Consultations.
Although the strategic framework document is not itself the subject of consultation, it is important background reading for stakeholders who plan to respond to the consultations on work based learning and the Legal Practice Course.
