Progress reviews

The report below is the first of a number of interim review reports that we expect Lord Ouseley to submit to our Equality Implementation Group. It focuses on progress related to one of the main recommendations set out in his 2008 report (see above) and one of the objectives of our equality and diversity strategy: "to provide visible and demonstrable leadership to ensure that equality and diversity is embedded into the culture and work of the SRA".

2008 annual report of regulatory activity

We want to demonstrate that we are are committed to regular monitoring of our regulatory activities and outcomes. Our annual monitoring report provides statistical data about key aspects of our regulatory activities for the year 2008 (predating our strategy), broken down by ethnicity, gender and age.

Independent review into disproportionate regulatory outcomes for black and minority ethnic solicitors

Download Lord Ouseley's report (PDF 542K)

In 2006, we published a report on the disproportionately high representation of black and minority ethnic solicitors in our regulatory decisions. It failed to identify an explanation for the disproportionality. (Download the 2006 report - PDF 224K, May 2006)

We subsequently created a working party including representatives of a number of black and minority ethnic solicitors groups. They are tasked with investigating the reasons behind the disproportionality.

Working party

The working party, chaired by Anesta Weekes QC, appointed Lord Herman Ouseley in February 2008 to act as an independent reviewer and prepare a report with findings and recommendations.
