Sir Ron Watson, CBE

Sir Ron has held various positions within Local Government and the NHS. He was first elected to Southport County Borough Council in 1969 and was elected to Sefton Council where he held all the major positions including Council Leader.

He is a former Deputy Chair of the LGA, Chair of the Tourism and Environment Executives, Deputy Chair of the Regeneration Board and is currently Vice Chair of the Urban Commission.

Sir Ron is a member of the UK Delegation to the EU Committee of the Regions, a Board Member of Standards for England and a Lay Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal Service.

His business background is in tourism and he is a Fellow of the Tourism Society and Institute of Travel and Tourism. Sir Ron is chair of the Southport & Ormskirk NHS Hospital Trust and, an accredited Peer with the Improvement and Development Agency and also holds a CBE.
