The Law Society and Solicitors Regulation Authority have jointly appointed Alan Vallance to the new role of Director of Organisational Services, with responsibility for finance, HR, IT and facilities for the representative Law Society and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
The role reports to a new joint Law Society/SRA Business and Oversight Board. Alan joins from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology where he was Chief Operating Officer. Previously, he spent 15 years in senior management positions with Australia Post during a period of significant changes to the postal market.
Alan qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst and Young in London and held positions in the UK and Europe with Hertz before moving to Australia.
Alan Vallance said: “This is a time of significant change in the legal services market, demanding responsive and reliable support services. Working with the Board and with Law Society and SRA colleagues, in London and the Midlands, I look forward to joining organisations with such a strong heritage and talented people.”
Andrew Caplen, Deputy Vice President elect and co-chair of the Business and Oversight Board said: “Alan brings with him impressive experience of managing large organisations during periods of change. In order to provide exemplary services to our members, we rely on exemplary performance from our finance, HR, IT and facilities teams, which I’m sure Alan will be instrumental in delivering.”
Graham Chisnall, SRA Board member and co-chair of the Business and Oversight Board said: “Alan promises to bring strong leadership to the teams providing vital shared services to the SRA and Law Society. He joins our organisation at a time of great challenge and opportunity and I look forward to working with him.”
Alan Vallance will take up his new role later this month. The announcement follows the recent Law Society appointments of Patricia Greer, formerly at the Cabinet Office, to the role of Chief of Corporate Affairs and Nigel Spencer, formerly of Logica, to the role of Chief of Commercial Affairs.
