SRA publishes interim report on disproportionality
9 March 2010
The Solicitors Regulation Authority has published an initial interim report on the research study being conducted by Pearn Kandola on the disproportionate representation of black and ethnic minority (BME) solicitors in its regulatory decisions.
The interim report provides a summary of the literature review and an overview of interviews conducted with other regulators about their approaches to disproportionality. The report provides an initial and very high level baseline analysis of data the SRA holds on those it regulates.
The next stage of the research has commenced and involves more in-depth data analysis. This is an important issue for the SRA in trying to understand why BME solicitors are disproportionately represented in regulatory decisions and in achieving its objective to demonstrate that it is a fair, open and proportionate regulator.
