The SRA is today launching a major programme of work to bring in new and improved business processes and IT systems to meet the challenges of modern risk-based regulation.
The Enabling Programme will replace and rationalise the current 200+ databases and systems across the organisation and bring in new and more effective ways of working. Processes will be simplified and some automated.
The changes, which are planned over two years, are necessary so the SRA can meet the challenges of the Legal Services Act and become a more efficient, risk-based and proportionate regulator.
Solicitors will also benefit from better and more cost-effective services, including self-service and web-based channels.
Chief Executive Antony Townsend said: "This programme is vital so that the SRA can regulate effectively in the public interest. Our current outdated IT system shave been pushed to the limits of their capability but simply can't cope with the information demands of modern risk-based regulation. We welcome the Law Society Council's decision to invest in this programme, which will benefit the public and the profession.
"This investment will help the SRA become more efficient in the long term, providing a better service for both consumers and the profession."
A rigorous process of internal and external assurance has been set up to ensure the programme meets key milestones and that benefits are delivered.
