New appointments to SRA's working party

26 February 2008

Anesta Weekes QC is to be the independent chair of the working party set up by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to look at the disproportionate representation of black and minority ethics solicitors in regulatory decisions.

The working party, which includes representatives of a number of black and minority ethnic solicitor groups, will prepare questions and issues for the independent reviewer, Lord Herman Ouseley. Lord Ouseley is the former chair of the Commission for Racial Equality.

Lord Ouseley's work will include a review of the case files and examination of the practices, procedures and decision making within the SRA.

The working party will make recommendations when it has received Lord Ouseley's findings.
