SRA organises events for BME solicitors

Black and minority ethnic solicitors are being invited to the first of two free workshop events on the SRA's approach to outcomes-focused regulation (OFR) on Wednesday, 17 October, at the Law Society Chancery Lane.

The workshop will cover two key areas:

  1. how the SRA supervises practices—including the importance of constructive engagement, the reporting duties of compliance officers for legal practice (COLPs) and compliance officers for finance and administration (COFAs), and how to avoid enforcement action; and
  2. financial management of firms—including how practitioners can manage financial difficulties and avoid making common mistakes that can ultimately lead to serious regulatory issues.

Delegates attending the interactive sessions will learn practical tips for avoiding regulatory action, including case studies based on the experience of SRA colleagues and have the opportunity to ask questions. Attendance at the whole event qualifies for two CPD hours.

The event runs from 14.30 to 17.15, at The Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London, and workshop places will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

To book a place for 17 October, email Equality, Diversity and inclusion giving the following contact details: an email address, telephone number, firm, and SRA number. The closing date for bookings is 17.00, Thursday, 13 September.

A second workshop event will be held on Wednesday, 5 December, in Birmingham at De Vere venues, Colmore Gate. Further details, including booking instructions, will follow.
