Individual and firm practising fees for 2010/2011

The Legal Services Board has approved the level of practising fees for 2010/2011.

The overall requirement for 2010/11 is slightly less than for 2009/10.

However, for the first time this year there is a combination of individual and firm fees, necessitated by the advent of firm-based regulation.

Every solicitor seeking a practising certificate and every recognised European lawyer (REL) and recognised foreign lawyer (RFL) seeking to register will pay a fee of £428. There will be reduced fees for those on maternity leave.

Registered foreign lawyers based mainly outside England and Wales will pay a reduced registration fee of £100.

The new fee policy, together with other guidance sets out the fees payable by firms (recognised sole practitioners and recognised bodies) seeking or maintaining authorisation to practise. These are calculated on turnover.
