SRA releases further information on PC renewals 2013

The SRA will be today (18 July) emailing authorised signatories and organisation contacts within firms and organisations to provide further information on how the 2013 PC renewals exercise - which will run from mid-September to 31 October - will differ from last year.

Planned changes include:

  • enhanced guidance text within mySRA and the bulk application
  • the ability for authorised individuals to add manager posts
  • greater flexibility to sort documents
  • enhanced user validation to prevent duplicate accounts being set up

Users will find it easier to request a reduced fee for a registered foreign lawyer who is principally based outside of England and Wales and will find it more straightforward to update contact details, providing a clearer distinction between work and personal addresses. Every effort has been made to keep any changes to the questions contained within PCR applications to a minimum.

Those that have been made are largely as a result of changes to the Handbook. These will be published on the website in advance of ‘go live’ day for PC renewals, together with other resources that will include comprehensive user guides and FAQs.

Rachel Lewis, Authorisation Operations Manager, said: “We are planning on introducing changes that we hope will reduce some of the issues users experienced in completing the renewals process last year. While the changes will not be as visible as in 2012, we have prioritised those that will have the greatest impact. Some of the changes may appear relatively minor or behind the scenes, but their effect is significant.

“Over the next month we will be testing these enhancements and will contact firms and individuals again in August with comprehensive information on how to complete the renewals process successfully.”

To assist in firm’s planning, the SRA has published its fees calculator for 2013/14, although fees are still subject to approval by the Legal Services Board.

In the meantime, the SRA urges individuals to update personal details within their mySRA profile on an ongoing basis as this will save time and resource when the renewals window opens in mid-September. All authorised signatories and organisation contacts can update employee details for those who have opted into the bulk renewal, should they wish to do so.
