SRA outlines the main risks to its regulatory objectives and the public interest

Law firms are being invited to attend a free event to find out how the SRA views the main risks to its regulatory objectives and to consumers of legal services.

The event - 'Line of sight: future risk developments' - is being held at Maple House in Birmingham on 2 July and is aimed at individuals responsible for compliance within firms as well as those who want to improve their understanding of risks in the legal services market and their impact on the SRA's objectives.

The programme will feature SRA Executive Directors Richard Collins and Samantha Barrass, and the SRA's Director of Risk, Andrew Garbutt together with contributions from external guest speakers.

Delegates will also be able to learn more about the Risk Outlook which was produced following a review of the current legal services market. The document sets out the SRA's view of the most significant risks and was designed to provide a useful tool in helping firms to manage and mitigate risk. Delegates will also hear about the SRA's priorities, how it allocates resources, and the controls it puts in place to manage risks.

Following the plenary session, delegates will be able to choose to attend interactive workshops to explore risk in more detail from the point of view of:

  • Current risks - including the drivers, conditions and outcomes that lead to financial instability
  • Drivers of risk - including the key factors driving risk, why this is a dynamic process especially in complex and changing markets such as legal services
  • Emerging and potential risks - including growing and emerging risks and how environmental factors and firms' behaviours might impact on them.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm.
