Solicitors urged to complete PC renewals process

Solicitors have been urged to renew their practising certificate in good time as the deadline for renewals is fast approaching.

Those wishing to renew have until 14 December to complete the process. The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) exercise started on 1 November.

So far, nearly half of solicitors in England and Wales have either completed or started the renewal process. Of the anticipated 37,000 bulk or single applications the SRA expects to receive, more than 18,000 are completed or nearing completion.

A range of support measures for those needing help with their renewals has been put in place, including:

  • Contact Centre including extended opening on Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00, until Saturday, 15 December Normal opening hours are: 08:00 to 18:00, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 09.30 to 18:00 on Tuesday
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Top tips
  • Two webinars, the second of which, recorded on 21 November, is devoted solely to questions and answers from those we regulate.
  • User guides

Alan Vallance, Director of Organisational Services, said: "We are pleased to report that mySRA is performing well and any issues being experienced by users are minor and easily addressed. We urge firms and individuals to complete the online renewals process as soon as possible rather than leaving it until the last minute.

"Those submitting bulk renewals should remember that they can submit their application before the deadline of 14 December, but arrange for your payment to be made later by selecting the 'Bill Me' payment option. Once you have submitted your application and paid the invoice, you can then track the progress of your application in mySRA Services."

Please note that applications will NOT be progressed until full payment of the invoice is received and that payment will still need to be made by the 14 December deadline date.
