SRA rolls out 2011 Roadshows

The Solicitors Regulation Authority will roll out its 2011 Roadshows starting on Wednesday 4 May with around 2,500 legal professionals due to attend one of 15 events across England and Wales.

SRA Chair Charles Plant and Chief Executive Antony Townsend will be keynote speakers at the opening Roadshow, to be held at the Law Society headquarters in Chancery Lane from 12 noon.

The two-hour sessions will include presentations by Board members and senior management on the new SRA Handbook, an overview of its new outcomes-focused approach to regulation and the proposed licensing of alternative business structures (ABS).

After the opening presentations, delegates will have the chance to attend one of three one-hour workshops concentrating on the Handbook; Risk, Supervision and Enforcement, and Authorisation.

The new approach to regulation, based on ten mandatory principles, will give lawyers greater freedom over how to achieve the best results for their clients, while ABS could radically change the make-up of law firms. The Roadshows, backed by a series of webinars, are aimed at preparing law firms for the changes that will come into being on October 6.

Chief Executive Antony Townsend said: "This year's extensive programme of roadshows will give us the opportunity to meet the profession to explain how the new system will work in practice, and to answer questions face-to-face.

"The workshops should prove particularly interesting and the people conducting them are looking forward to some challenging sessions."

Places at all shows were booked within days of being released but it is still possible to book a place on our special Roadshow Recap webinar, to be held on Thursday 30 June. Visit
