Board welcomes new member

Our Board has welcomed Tony Williams, principal of Jomati Consultants LLP, to its ranks.

Tony, who will attend his first meeting in October, joins the now 15-strong Board as a solicitor member. He has worked in a number of roles both in the UK and abroad.

SRA chair, Enid Rowlands, said "I am delighted that Tony is joining us. One only has to look at his experience, practising both here and abroad, and the recognition he has received throughout his career, to know that he will be an excellent addition to our Board. Tony's appointment will enhance the strong solicitor presence we have on the Board. Seven out of 15 of our Board members are solicitors and they bring real insight and expertise to our work.

"We look forward to working with Tony, as we reform our regulatory model to support a modern, open legal market that meets unmet need while protecting the public and ensuring high professional standards."

Tony qualified as a solicitor at Turner Garrett & Co in Surrey before moving to Coward Chance (now Clifford Chance), initially as a property lawyer and then as a corporate lawyer. He worked in London, Hong Kong and Moscow and his last role at the firm was as Worldwide Managing Partner.

He left in 2000 for the same role at Andersen Legal prior to the collapse of the Andersen organisation in 2002 in the wake of Enron. For his role in the orderly dissolution of Garretts (the English arm of Andersen Legal), he was awarded Partner of the Year by The Lawyer magazine.

He established Jomati Consultants in October 2002. Jomati supports law firms, barristers chambers and in-house legal departments on a range of strategic and management issues, and in 2012, the Queen awarded it, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, the Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade. Tony is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Law.
