News release

SRA webinars

A series of webinars designed to prepare law firms for the changes due to take place on October 6 are now open for enrolment on the SRA website.

Seven webinars will take place between 23 June and 14 September as the legal profession gears up for the introduction of outcomes-focused regulation (OFR), alternative business structures (ABS) and the new SRA Handbook.

Implementing the Handbook, on June 23, is for sole practitioners and small firms and will concentrate on the transition from the present 'code-based' approach to outcomes-focused regulation. The SRA's approach to authorisation will feature in the 28 June webinar, explaining how assessing risks will minimise the extent to which unsuitable applicants are able to enter the 'regulated community'.

There will be a chance for anyone who missed one of the SRA's summer roadshows to see much of what they missed on the 30 June webinar while 7 July will concentrate on issues around a firm's 'control functions' and look at work done by the COLP and COFA.

Relationship managements will be the subject on 6 September while, on 9 September, an update on how supervision function will operate will be explained by members of the SRA's Supervision and Legal reams.

The final one of this series will be on 14 September and will concentrate on the SRA Risk Centre and advise solicitors on managing risk.

The webinars are to support the SRA roadshows that are taking place around England and Wales over the next two months.

SRA Chief Executive Antony Townsend said: "It is essential that we get our messages across to as many people as possible. The roadshows have been very well received and the webinars are a excellent back-up tool, we are sure they will prove very popular."
