Consumer research highlights potential risks
Initial findings from research into consumers' attitudes to purchasing legal services show a low level of knowledge and understanding of legal services, with consumers expecting all providers to be appropriately qualified and regulated. The findings highlight potential risks for the consumer as the market opens up.

Student applications lead way for move online
The SRA will be online with the first of our core applications processes—student enrolment—early next year. From summer 2011, a significant swathe of the paper-based forms we receive will be converted to online forms, giving individuals and firms the ability to manage their transactions and details online.

Number of firms in ARP falls
The number of firms that have applied to the assigned risks pool (ARP) this year is fewer than last year, and the SRA's strategy to manage the ARP more effectively will continue for 2010/2011.

Case study
The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal struck off a solicitor after finding that his conduct had been "wholly irreconcilable" with ensuring that a solicitor could be trusted "to the ends of the earth". There was no allegation of dishonesty.
