Legal education and training review: Bids invited for legal education review

SRA Update Issue 16 – January 2011

The SRA, the Bar Standards Board and the Institute of Legal Executives Professional Standards are inviting suppliers with the requisite knowledge and experience to tender for a groundbreaking, joint review of legal services education, due to start in April 2011.

The Legal education and training review (LETR, formerly known as "Review 2020") is being commissioned to ensure that the ethical standards and levels of competence of individuals delivering legal services in regulated law firms are adequate to deliver a high standard of service for consumers and to support the public interest and the rule of law.

The successful contractor will need to research and analyse the current legal education and training system in England and Wales, and abroad—as well as comparative sectors and professions—in respect of

  • the requirements for entrance into the profession,
  • continuing education, and
  • training provision.

They will also conduct an analysis of the context and likely shape of, and demands on, legal services in the period up to and including 2020.

The review is due to start in April 2011 and be completed by November 2012. For more information, visit www.sra.org.uk/letr.
