Welcome to an issue of SRA Update about the Legal Services Act.

The Act received Royal Assent last month. In time, it will remake the legal services landscape. Will you be ready for the changes ahead?

  • Solicitors in the future will be able to team up with other branches of the profession and with non-lawyers to provide legal services—in legal disciplinary practices (LDPs).
  • In due course, alternative business structures (ABSs)—with outside investment—will be permitted.
  • New bodies will handle consumer complaints and oversee the regulation of legal services.
