SRA Update
Paying for regulation
SRA Update Issue 9 – August 2009
Changes brought by the Legal Services Act 2007 have made a review of the funding for regulation essential.
Proposals for effectively and fairly allocating the costs of regulation are up for discussion. The current structure is not fair; and the new structure will have to accommodate firm-based regulation, alternative business structures, and the running costs of the Legal Services Board and the Office for Legal Complaints.
Our consultation paper—Moving toward a fairer fee policy—also includes possible changes to funding arrangements for the Compensation Fund.
