SRA Update Issue 62 - June 2017

Welcome to the latest issue of SRA Update. Summer is here, but we are still in a very busy period. Solicitor involvement in fraudulent investment schemes continues to cause real concern. I know that very few solicitors would ever knowingly participate in such schemes, but the damage done to both the public and the reputation of the profession can be significant. We have issued a further warning notice listing additional issues to watch out for to make sure you do not get caught up in these doubtful activities.

You will also see we have started the next phase of our work to radically simplify our Handbook, as part of our work to maintain high professional standards while getting rid of unnecessary bureaucracy and giving you and your firms greater flexibility. A clearer, simpler Handbook will focus on what really matters, will be easier to navigate and will save you time and cost.

You can also read about our Annual Review, which provides an accessible summary of the breadth of our work last year. It shows we are continually improving how we operate, but of course there is still more for us to do.

Paul Philip
