Student enrolment
Last updated 28 March 2013
You may start the Legal Practice Course (LPC) only if we have approved your application for student enrolment. This is a regulatory requirement (see SRA Training Regulations 2011, regulation 12). Anyone who starts the LPC without a communication from us approving their enrolment application and confirming completion of the academic stage of training faces serious inconvenience and disappointment, as they will not be permitted to continue their studies.

Student enrolment is the process by which you
- demonstrate to the SRA that you have satisfied the academic stage requirements and are therefore eligible and sufficiently qualified to continue to the vocational stage of training,
- demonstrate by passing the Suitability Test that you are of the appropriate character to continue to the next stage of training on the route to becoming a solicitor, and
- bring yourself within the regulatory regime of the SRA.
The SRA Training Regulations 2011 state that you must have enrolled with us before you commence the LPC. It is very important that you apply for student enrolment in advance of your anticipated LPC start date to allow time for your application to be processed.
Deadlines
- If you have any character and suitability issues, you must apply for student enrolment six months in advance of your LPC start date.
- If you do not have any character and suitability issues, you must apply for student enrolment one month in advance of your LPC start date.
- If your student enrolment has lapsed and you are re-applying with character and suitability issues, you must re-apply for student enrolment six months in advance of commencing your training contract.
In order for an application to be considered, it must be complete; a completed application consists of a fully completed form and the appropriate fee of £80.00 together with any supporting documentation.
We are unable to expedite applications for the purposes of meeting individual students' personal deadlines (e.g. bank loan deadlines or visa applications).
Student enrolment fees are non-refundable. Please note that, should you decide to withdraw your application, your fee will not be refunded.
