Social media profiles misusing the name “Hickman and Rose Solicitors”.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that profiles of two individuals on social media appear to misuse the name of "Hickman and Rose Solicitors".

The SRA has been advised that one social media profile claims to be for 'Lucy Clark' and lists her as being a 'Partner at Hickman & Rose Solicitors'. A second social media profile claiming to be for 'Ishmael Khaliq' lists him as 'working for Hickman & Rose Solicitors'.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate any solicitors by the name of Ishmael Khaliq.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

Hickman & Rose is a genuine firm authorised and regulated by the SRA. The genuine firm of Hickman & Rose Solicitors have confirmed that they do not employ anybody by the name of 'Lucy Clark' and 'Ishmael Khaliq'

The SRA does regulate several admitted solicitors by the name of Lucy Clark, none of whom are currently employed at the genuine firm of Hickman and Rose Solicitors.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
