Warning: Correspondence misusing the details of Browne Jacobson LLP

Faxed letters have been sent referring to an unclaimed inheritance, misusing the name Browne Jacobson LLP.
What is the scam?
The SRA has received information that several members of the public have received letters sent by fax, falsely claiming to be from "Derek Bambury B.A Distinction, J.D" of the firm Browne Jacobson LLP. The letters relate to an unclaimed inheritance of an individual with the same surname as the recipient.
A letter seen by the SRA gives an email addresses of “firstname.lastname@example.org” and “email@example.com”. It also gives a telephone number of “011 44 789 979 7372”.
The correspondence also misuses the address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
The letter also gives a website address of “www.brownnnejacobson.com”. The SRA has been informed that this website address is a link to a website cloned from the website of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
Any business or transactions conducted through the email addresses, telephone number and website above are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.

The SRA has received further reports that faxes have been sent which misuse the contact details for Derek Bambury and Browne Jacobson LLP.
The latest faxes claim to be sent from Derek Bambury at Browne Jacobson LLP. These faxes have been sent from "011 44 203 0700534"
The fax provides a telephone number "011 44 208 144 5407" and email address; "firstname.lastname@example.org"
The fax also misuses the address of the genuine firm.
The fax gives a website address of “www.brownnejacobson.com” The SRA has been informed this website has been taken down.
Another fax was sent from the same fax number of "011 44 203 0700534". However, the email addresses provided are "email@example.com" and "firstname.lastname@example.org" and a telephone contact number "011447417462172"
Any business or transactions through telephone number "011 44 208 144 5407" and "011447417462172" and fax number "011 44 203 0700534" also the following email addresses "email@example.com" "firstname.lastname@example.org" "email@example.com" are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
The genuine Derek Bambury and Browne Jacobson LLP (see below) have confirmed that they have no connection to the faxes referred to above.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
Browne Jacobson LLP is a genuine firm which is authorised and regulated by the SRA.
The genuine firm has a genuine London office address at 15th Floor, 6 Bevis Marks, London EC3A 7BA. The genuine firm's telephone number is 0370 270 6000. The firm's genuine email address ends in the suffix of "@brownejacobson.com" and its genuine website address is www.brownejacobson.com.
Derek Bambury is a genuine solicitor and Senior Partner of Browne Jacobson LLP.
12 Henrietta Street is the genuine London office address of a genuine firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA.
The genuine Derek Bambury and Browne Jacobson LLP, and other genuine firm affected, have confirmed that they have no connection to the letters or website referred to above.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
