Warning: Emails misusing the names of Francesca Cappa and MFB Solicitors

Emails have been sent, falsely claiming to be from Francesca Cappa of MFB Solicitors, in relation to unpaid payments.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent to members of the public, falsely claiming to be from Francesca Cappa of MFB Solicitors. The emails relate to unpaid payments to a client.
It is understood that a genuine email has been intercepted and amended, and then sent to members of the public for whom the original e-mail was not intended.
The emails falsely appear to have been sent from Francesca Cappa of MFB Solicitors.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
MFB Solicitors is a genuine firm which is authorised and regulated by the SRA. Francesca Cappa is a genuine solicitor who is authorised and regulated by the SRA and works at the genuine firm.
Both the genuine Francesca Cappa and the genuine firm confirm that they have no connection to the emails referred to above.
Members of the public who have any concerns about emails received from Francesca Cappa of MFB Solicitors in respect of unpaid monies should contact the genuine MFB Solicitors to verify their authenticity.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
