Warning: Email from "Tracy Monk", which may contain link to malware

An email has been sent claiming to be from "Tracy Monk" from “Mancini Legal” which may contain a link to malware if opened.

What is the scam?

An email has been sent to members of the public, claiming to be from "Tracy Monk" from "Mancini Legal" in relation to a supposed "refund".

The subject heading of the email seen by the SRA is "Refund". The email appears to be sent from "Tracy Monk" from a spoofed email and requests the recipient to open the attachment to supposedly view the secured message.

A concern is that the attachment may contain malware if opened.

The email misuses the name and contact details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Mancini Legal Limited. The registered head office is based at 23 West Street Horsham West Sussex RH12 1PB. The contact telephone number is 01403 337 337. The firm website is at

The genuine firm employs a staff member called Tracy Monk.

The genuine Mancini Legal Limited has confirmed to the SRA that neither it nor its employee Tracy Monk has any connection to the email referred to in the above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
