Warning: Unsolicited telephone calls claiming to be from "MTA Solicitors"

11 February 2020

Members of the public have been receiving unsolicited telephone calls claiming to be from "MTA Solicitors".

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that members of the public have received unsolicited telephone calls from individuals claiming to be from or working in conjunction with "MTA Solicitors". We have been informed that the calls relate to road traffic accident claims.

The SRA has been informed that recent telephone calls were made from various telephone numbers, including "07801 472155" and "07484 859697".

Any business or transactions through the above contact numbers are not believed to be undertaken by a solicitor’s practice or an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates two genuine firms of solicitors called MTA Solicitors LLP and MTA Personal injury Solicitors LLP. Both of these firms are based in the same offices in Bromley, Kent BR1 3WA and have contact numbers of 0208 437 0731 and 0208 313 5111 respectively.

MTA Solicitors LLP and MTA Personal Injury Solicitors LLP have confirmed to the SRA that they have no connection to the telephone numbers and calls reported in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
