Warning: "Michael Wilson" misusing the name of TLT LLP

The SRA has received a report that a "Michael Wilson" is falsely claiming to be solicitor working for "TLT Solicitors".
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that "Michael Wilson" is claiming to be employed by "TLT Solicitors".
A member of the public has stated that he instructed the individual in respect of an investment transaction. The individual "Michael Wilson" prepared and signed two legal documents stamped with his name "Michael Wilson" and "Attorney at Law, TLT Solicitors Law Firm, London, UK".
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine firm called TLT LLP.
There are a number of genuine solicitors, authorised and regulated by the SRA, with the name of Michael Wilson, none of whom are believed by the SRA to have any connection with the matters set out above.
Any business or transactions through "Michael Wilson" claiming to be employed or representing "TLT Solicitors" are not undertaken by a firm of solicitors or by an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
