Warning: Emails misusing of the name "Claire Armstrong, Partner, Dentons"

Emails have been sent falsely claiming to be from "Claire Armstrong, Partner, Dentons", attaching a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and bank details.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent out falsely claiming to be from Claire Armstrong, Partner, Dentons.

The emails use the email address "Claire.armstrong@dentons-law.com". The email attaches an NDA and banking information for a third party. The email provides a telephone number of "+44 7488 864011."

The domain name being used is not used by the genuine person and genuine firm (see below).

Any business or transactions through the email address "Claire.armstrong@dentons-law.com" or telephone number "+44 7488 864011" are not undertaken by a solicitor’s practice or by an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine solicitor called Claire Armstrong. She is a partner at the genuine firm of Dentons UK & Middle East LLP.

The correct domain name for the firm is "dentons.com" and the firm’s genuine email addresses end in "@dentons.com"

The firm Dentons UK & Middle East LLP and Claire Armstrong have confirmed that they have no genuine connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
