Warning: Correspondence misusing the name of Farrer & Co LLP

Correspondence has been sent misusing the name of Farrer & Co LLP, in relation to a financial transaction supposedly relating to medical equipment.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that a member of the public has received correspondence falsely stating that "Attorney Anthony Turner" of "Farrer & Co LLP" was acting in financial transaction supposedly relating to medical equipment. The SRA understands that a document was sent stating the genuine firm will provide "Proof of Funds and Letter of Authorization".
The document misuses the name of a genuine solicitor and the genuine contact details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Farrer & Co LLP trading as Farrer & Co. The head office is based at 66 Lincoln’s Inn Field London WC2A 3LH. The genuine contact number is 0203 375 7460.
The SRA also authorise and regulates a genuine solicitor called Anthony Turner who is a Corporate Partner at Farrer & Co LLP.
The genuine firm of Farrer & Co LLP and the genuine solicitor Anthony Turner have confirmed to the SRA that they have no connection to the correspondence or document referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
