What is the scam?
The website "www․gowmans․co․uk" is operating, which falsely claims to be for a firm of solicitors called "Gowmans".
The SRA does not regulate or authorise a firm of solicitors called "Gowmans".
Any business or transactions through "Gowmans" or the website "www․gowmans․co․uk" are not undertaken by a firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA did authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called Gowmans which merged with WBW Solicitors LLP on 1 April 2017. The genuine website is www.wbw.co.uk.
WBW Solicitors LLP has confirmed to the SRA it has no connection to the website referred to above.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
