The website "www․richardchapmanllp․com" is operating, falsely claiming to be the website for a firm of solicitors called "Richard Chapman LLP"․

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that the website "" is operating, which falsely claims to be the website for a firm of solicitors called "Richard Chapman LLP" in London.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called "Richard Chapman LLP" (see below for details of a genuine recognised body with a similar name) ․

The website provides a telephone number of "+44 (202) 9865 562" and an email address of "".

It also misuses the postal address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The website appears to have cloned the details from a website of another genuine firm of solicitors. It misuses the names and photographs of several genuine solicitors of the genuine firm (see below).

Any business or transactions through the website "" or the telephone number and email address set out above, are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a recognised body called Richard Chapman Limited; whose office is at Unit 316 The Frames 1 Phipp Street London EC2A 4PS with a contact telephone number of 07939 268783. The recognised body does not have a website. 

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Greenwoods GRM LLP. The firm website is The SRA authorises and regulates genuine solicitors called Sophie Askew, Claire Banks, Gillian Bassett, Philip Carter, Ellen Cole, Bourn Collier, Lauren Coote, Howard Crossman, Gregor Davidian, Neville Drummond, Samantha East, Vincent Galea, Kathryn Gilbertson, Dov Katz and Simon Malcolm, who are solicitors at the genuine firm.  Ian Bowyer, Melissa Butler, Sophie Easteal and George Elliman are also employees of Greenwoods GRM LLP.

The SRA also authorises and regulates genuine solicitor called Oluwaferanmi Ibitoye who was previously employed at Greenwood GRM LLP.

The genuine Richard Chapman Ltd, the genuine firm Greenwoods GRM LLP and the genuine solicitors above have confirmed that they do not have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
