Warning: Emails misusing the name of an employee of A & N Care Solicitors Limited

Emails have been sent misusing the name of an employee of A & N Care Solicitors Limited, a genuine firm of solicitors.

What is the scam?

The SRA understands that emails have been sent falsely claiming to be from "Charlotte Worthy" (see below).

The email seen by the SRA is headed "URGENT/Private & Confidential" and asks the recipient to click on a link to review documents.

A concern is that the link may contain malware if opened.

The emails appear to misuse the genuine email address of an employee of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The email also misuses the genuine address and telephone number of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called A & N Care Solicitors Limited whose head office address is Regency House, 2 Paradise Street, Sheffield, S1 2DF. Its telephone number is +44 (0)114 321 750.

The genuine firm has an employee named Charlotte Worthy, whose genuine email address is cw@caresolicitors.com.

The genuine firm of A & N Care Solicitors Limited has confirmed that neither it nor the genuine employee, Charlotte Worthy, has any genuine and intended connection to the emails referred to in the alert above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
