Correspondence has been sent falsely claiming to be from "Josiah Hincks Solicitors" and the website "https://www․josiahincks․co․uk/" is operating․
What is the scam?
Faxes have been sent falsely claiming to be from "Josiah Hincks Solicitors" (see below).
The faxes seen by the SRA refer to a supposedly unclaimed inheritance from someone with the same surname as the recipient of the fax.
The faxes falsely claim to have been sent from "Ed Liddell" and "Jack Khurana" of "Josiah Hincks Solicitors" (see below). The faxes also provide the following contact details:
- Telephone number - "01144 203 0971 792"
- Fax number - "01144 121 3682 037"
- Email addresses - "firstname.lastname@example.org", "email@example.com", "firstname.lastname@example.org", "email@example.com", and "firstname.lastname@example.org".
One of the faxes seen by the SRA gives the address of the genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
The faxes also give the website address of "https://www.josiahincks.co.uk/". This website also provides the telephone number "0203 970 1792" and misuses the names and pictures of genuine employees at the genuine firm (see below).
Any business or transactions through the website "https://www.josiahincks.co.uk/", or from any of the contact details provided above are not undertaken by a firm of solicitors or individuals authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called Josiah Hincks Solicitors whose genuine Head Office address is The Manse, 22 De Montfort Street, Leicester, LE1 7GB.
The firm’s genuine telephone number is 0116 255 1811, its fax number is 0116 290 1994, and the firm uses the domain name "@josiahhincks.co.uk" for its genuine email addresses. The firm’s genuine website is https://www.josiahhincks.co.uk/.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Jatinder Khurana (Jack Khurana) who is employed by the genuine firm of solicitors called Josiah Hincks Solicitors. His genuine email address is email@example.com.
The SRA also authorises and regulates three genuine solicitors called Edward Liddell, one of whom was previously employed at the genuine firm of Josiah Hincks Solicitors.
The SRA also authorises and regulates solicitors called (Ronald) Andrew Eagle, Jonathan Foster, (Peter) Neal Patterson, Radmila Balac and Natalie Biggin, all of whom are partners at the genuine firm of Josiah Hincks. None of these genuine solicitors are believed to have any connection with the website or correspondence referred to in the above alert.
The genuine firm of Josiah Hincks Solicitors has confirmed that neither it nor the genuine Jack Khurana, (Ronald) Andrew Eagle, Jonathan Foster, (Peter) Neal Patterson, Radmila Balac and Natalie Biggin have any genuine and intended connection to the faxes or website referred to in the alert above.
It is believed that none of the genuine solicitors called Edward Liddell have any genuine or intended connection to the faxes or website referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
