Warning: Letters misusing the name of Glaisyers Solicitors LLP

12 August 2021

Letters have been sent misusing the details of Glaisyers Solicitors LLP in respect of property purchase transaction.

What is the scam?

The SRA understands that a letter has been produced claiming to be from 'David Marlor' managing partner of Glaisyers Solicitors LLP.

The SRA has been advised that individuals  who were trying to rent a property in Bristol were provided with a letter falsely claiming to be from  'Glaisyers Solicitors LLP'. The letter refers to the purchase of a property completing and that they will proceed to register the property with Land Registry.

The letter uses false letterheaded paper.  It also gives the  SRA no and head office address for a genuine firm, together with the email address of a genuine solicitor (see below).

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Glaisyers Solicitors LLP. The firm’s  Head Office address is One St James's Square Manchester M2 6DN. Its genuine SRA number is 487118.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called David Marlor who is a managing partner at Glaisyers Solicitors LLP.  His genuine email address is david.marlor@glaisyers.com.

The genuine firm of Glaisyers Solicitors LLP has confirmed that neither the firm nor the genuine David Marlor have any genuine and intended connection to the correspondence referred to in the alert above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
