Warning: Emails claiming to be from the SRA

2 March 2021

Law firms continue to receive emails and telephone calls claiming to be from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

What is the scam?

Law firms are being contacted by various scammers pretending they are from the SRA in a bid to extract sensitive information or payments.

The latest involves firms being contacted using the following email addresses requesting that 'due diligence' is required:

  • financialsupports@sra.org.uk
  • teamadminservices@sra.org.uk
  • financialsupport@sra.org.uk

Other scams have involved:

  • Emails being sent to law firms from an account pretending to be from us and asking them to fill out a compliance questionnaire
  • Firms contacted by telephone – where our Contact Centre number displays as the caller ID. Some calls claim to ask about a traffic accident. Others might be different
  • Solicitors being contacted in relation to a genuine intervention we carried out in 2018, and the solicitor being asked for a payment before matters can be progressed

Emails have also been sent to firms from the following addresses:

  • admins-reply@sra.org.uk
  • supportservices@sra.org.uk
  • verifcationchecks@sra.org.uk
  • lawyerverifictionschecks@sra.org.uk
  • authoritysoilicitorschecks@sra.org.uk
  • teamservicerchecks@sra.org.uk
  • sraverificationcheckers@sra.org.uk
  • sraverificationcheckers@sra.org.uk
