Emails have been sent misusing the name of Patrick Grieshaber

What is the scam?

Emails have been sent that falsely claim to be from Patrick Grieshaber.  The emails seen by the SRA relate to a purported inheritance of a very large amount of money, with the recipient having the same surname as a supposedly deceased client.

The emails seen by the SRA were sent from the email addresses The emails also provide a false telephone number of '+44 20 8638 0507' and a fraudulent website

The emails do however misuse the address of a genuine firm based at 5 South Greenwich, London (see details below). The postcode provided in the fraudulent email is E1W 2BU. Please note that this postcode does not match this address.

Any business or transaction through the above email address or telephone are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice authorised and regulated by the SRA or by an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine firm of Solicitors, Brown & Co Solicitors, based at 5 South Greenwich, London, SE10 8NW.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
