Warning: Website claiming to be for 'GM Solicitors'

The website 'www.gmsolicitors.com' is (or was recently) operating, claiming to be for 'GM Solicitors'.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that the website 'www.gmsolicitors.com' is, or was until recently, operating and falsely claiming to be for a firm of solicitors called 'GM Solicitors'.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'GM Solicitors'.

The website copied layout and material from the website of a genuine firm (see below), but changed the name, email address and contact telephone number. A screenshot of the website seen by the SRA shows the website providing a contact number of '07537131210' and an email address of 'info@gmsolicitors.com'.

Any business or transaction through 'GM Solicitors', or the website and contact details referred to above, are not undertaken by a solicitors’ practice authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called TM Solicitors Limited. The genuine firm’s contact number is 01482 429985 and the genuine email address is  tim.murden@tmsolicitors.co.uk. The genuine website for the firm is www.tmsolicitors.co.uk.

The genuine firm of TM Solicitors Limited have confirmed that they do not have any genuine connection to the website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
