Warning: Emails misusing the name of Law Limited, trading as Brooke Gordon Solicitors

Correspondence has been sent misusing the name of Law Limited, trading as Brooke Gordon Solicitors.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that correspondence has been sent to members of the public claiming to be from 'Ihab Alsabi' of Law Limited T/A Brooke Gordon Solicitors.

The SRA also understands that correspondence containing contracts in Arabic have been sent to members of the public claiming to be from 'Ahmad Alyons' of 'Law Limited UK'. The document seen by the SRA gives the telephone number +44 7418 351 809. It also gives the address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below). The contract also claimed to have been signed by 'Malcolm Gordon' of 'Law Limited'.

Finally, the SRA has also been advised that an individual is claiming to be a lawyer called 'Zidan Obaid' of 'Law Limited Ltd'. This individual gave the same telephone number referred to above and also +44 207 880 1789 and also the former address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called 'Ihab Alsabi' 'Ahamed Ayonsi' or 'Zidan Obaid', nor does it authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Law Limited Ltd' or Law Limited UK'.

Any business or transactions through 'Ihab Alsabi', 'Ahamed Alyonsi' or Zidan Odaid' or the telephone number +44 7418 351 809 are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice authorised and regulated by the SRA or by an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Law Limited, trading as Brooke Gordon Solicitors. The genuine firm is based at 105 Piccadilly, London, W1J 7NJ and uses email addresses that end with the domain name '@brookegordon.co.uk'. It’s previous address was Lower Ground Floor, 4-5 Gough Square, London, England, EC4A 3DE.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Malcolm Gordon, who is employed at Law Limited t/a Brooke Gordon Solicitors.

The genuine firm of Law Limited t/a Brooke Gordon Solicitors has confirmed that neither it nor the genuine solicitor, Malcolm Gordon, have any intended connection to the emails or documents referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
