Warning: Email misusing the name of Primarc Solicitors

An email has been sent misusing the name of Primarc Solicitors.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a member of the public has received an email purporting to be from 'Mr Juhel Miah', solicitor at Primarc Solicitors. The email refers to monies being paid in respect of the purchase of a property in Bangladesh.

The email seen by the SRA appears to have been sent from the address jmiah@primarcsolicitor.com and provides a telephone contact number of 0208 243 8772

Any business or transactions through the above email, telephone or fax number is not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual regulated and authorised by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called Primarc Solicitors Ltd. The firm’s genuine telephone contact number is 0208 912 2280 and its email addresses use the domain name '@primarcsolicitors.com'.

The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine solicitor called Juhel Miah. His genuine email address is 'jmiah@primarcsolicitors.com'.

Both the genuine firm and Mr Miah have confirmed they have no connection to the email referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
